Business Buyer’s Advocate in Melbourne

By Michael White, Director and licensed estate agent · Updated October 2026

If you want to buy a business in Melbourne or regional Victoria, a buyer’s advocate does the searching, assessing and negotiating for you. Vic Brokers is a licensed business broker and has been selling businesses since 2017. We know how businesses are priced, what sellers expect and where deals tend to go wrong. As your buyer’s advocate, we put that experience to work on your side of the table.

How it works

1. Search. We start with your brief: the industry, location, budget and how hands-on you want to be. Then we look across advertised businesses, our own network and businesses that aren’t publicly on the market.

2. Assess. For each business that fits, we look at the figures the seller provides, the asking price against comparable businesses, the lease, the staff and what the business really earns for an owner. You get a plain summary before you decide whether to go further.

3. Negotiate. We negotiate the price and the terms, including what’s in the sale: stock, equipment, and the handover and training period. We work alongside your accountant and solicitor through to settlement.

Buyer's Advocate

What is a business buyer’s advocate?

A seller usually has a broker working to get them the best result. A buyer’s advocate does the same job for the buyer. Instead of sifting through listings and negotiating on your own, you have someone who sells businesses for a living finding the right one and testing whether it’s worth the asking price.

Why use Vic Brokers

  • We’re a licensed estate agent and a member of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria.
  • We sell small, medium and large businesses, so we know what businesses like the one you want actually sell for.
  • We work across most industries, including supermarkets and food retail, cafés and restaurants, childcare and NDIS providers, manufacturing and engineering, and finance and mortgage broking businesses.
  • We hear about businesses before they’re advertised, and about some that never are.
  • You deal with a broker based in Melbourne from the first brief to settlement.

Common questions

Do I still need an accountant and a solicitor? Yes. We find, assess and negotiate. Your accountant checks the financial records and your solicitor handles the contract and the lease.

Can you find businesses that aren’t advertised? Often, yes. Some owners only sell quietly, and some businesses are sold before they’re ever listed.
